Buying real estate in Spain has become increasingly popular since the pandemic. The portal Idealista has conducted a study indicating which Spanish regions are the most interesting for foreigners.

This study was conducted with data from buyers from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Romania and Morocco who are most interested in buying vacation properties in Spain. In this article, we take a closer look at the behavior of European buyers.

Germans prefer to buy vacation homes in Spain on the Balearic Islands, especially in Palma de Mallorca. 45% of buyers in Palma opted for homes under 300,000 euros, while 27% of buyers in the municipality of Calviá (Balearic Islands) opted for homes priced over one million euros. Palma and Calviá are followed by Barcelona, Torrevieja (Alicante) and Llucmajor (Balearic Islands).

The French, on the other hand, are largely acquiring properties in major cities in Spain such as Barcelona, La Moraleja (Madrid) and Valencia. Regardless of the city, the French prefer to buy houses for less than 300,000 EUR, with the exception of La Moraleja, where 95% of the French seek luxury properties for over 1 million EUR.

The British are interested in a mix of urban and beach areas. The 5 cities where they buy the most properties in Spain include Madrid, Barcelona, Marbella (Málaga), Torrevieja (Alicante) and Valencia. The British prefer to buy houses at a price of less than 300,000.00 EUR, regardless of the municipality in which they buy.

Swedes prefer vacation homes in Spain in the country’s tourist communities, such as: Torrevieja (Alicante), Marbella (Malaga), Orihuela (Alicante), Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands) and Mijas (Malaga). Like the French and British, Swedes prefer properties priced below EUR 300,000.00.
